Mitsubishi Unveils Two New Concepts in Tokyo

Mitsubishi impressed the world at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show recently by unveiling not one, but imressive concepts, and we here at Hickory Mitsubishi were quite impressed. The Japanese automaker, is perhaps, best known right now for the release of the Mitsubishi i, which is still among the first massively produced all-electric vehicles to be introduced to the United States, and the vehicle is quickly bringing their name to the forefront of drivers' minds when it comes to green tech.
With the i gaining so much popularity so quickly then, it only makes sense that Mitsubishi would want to capitalize on that success. That's why both concepts were aimed at efficiency and style, rather than performance and power. Mitsubishi knows that drivers want to spend less money on their vehicles, and more time behind the wheel at a lower cost. That said, here's what we know so far.
First up to bat is the Mitsubishi Mirage. If that name sounds familiar, it's because the Mirage was already a model. This resurrection sees the once popular model as a five-door hatchback, similar in style to the Mini Cooper Clubman. It's powered by a 1.0-liter inline 3-cylinder engine, and it boasts a Continuously Variable Transmission in order to maximize fuel economy.
Then there's the sequel to the Mitsubishi i, the PX-MiEV. The vehicle utilizes both an electric mtoor and a 2.0-liter MICEV 4-cylinder engine to maximize travel, while minimizing cost. It boasts a range of 800 km (496 miles), which translates into around 141 MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent) when traveling on electricity alone, and Mitsubishi is also claiming that its "instant torque" produced by the electric motor is comparable to that of a 3.0-liter V6 engine.
